I have read the MSICS manual and it’s quite comprehensive. Almost all aspects of the procedure have been covered. It will serve as a versatile training manual for our residents. In the sub-Saharan Africa region, the pattern of surgical skills acquisition training for residents involves the use of stereoscopic table-mounted microscopes to develop hand-to-eye co-ordination. The residents are required to do an incision and suturing on styrofoam and goats’ eyes. Bulls’ eyes are used to learn capsulotomy and the nucleus’s delivery and raise trabeculectomy scleral flaps. I am of the opinion that the HelpMeSee Eye Surgery Simulator will make a positive difference in enhancing the basic surgical training of the residents as they transition to practice on live patients. Sub-Saharan Africa is the center of underserved blind populations and I want to kindly appeal to you to consider opening a training center in West Africa. Kano in Nigeria is quite accessible and collaborative institutions are available.
I thank your organization for caring about the underprivileged blind in our part of the world.
Thank you.
